Article : Actor's Beijing Report

Report from this blog, by Yo-LiPing! sent in by anon Click link for more pics
I have finished shooting the film early due to the extreme summer heat. I was in the hurry to go back to BeiJing cause I knew I'm going to meet Keanu Reeves this afternoon. That's when I suddenly remembered that I left all my nice cloths in the closet where I was shooting the film I was afraid to upset such a huge star by seeming rude in dressing inappropriately. As a result,I went to a mall, spent a hour and bought myself a nice outfit. Also I knew Mr.Reeves was very tall so I bought shoes with high heels as well. Then I drove to the place we'd meet.I thought he would act like a snob. But when I met him, he was the very oppisite of what I thought, nice and humble. When I walked through the door, I saw him happily stand up and walkover to shake my hands. I was late but he was not angry and did not blame me,and while he looked at me I noticed that his eyes were beautiful and as deep as the ocean. I stayed with him for two hours, before I left I asked if we could take a few pictures together. Mr.Reeves gladly agreed.

Joe Queenan on why the US treats film stars like gods who have popped down to earth for a gambol among the ordinary folk
Things were looking pretty bleak here in Tarrytown, New York, back in January. Stores were closing left and right, people were losing their homes, nobody could find work, and out in the street it was colder than a penguin's flippers. Truly, this was the winter of our discontent. And then Keanu came to town.

from Tarrytown's RiverJournal thanks Big Bad Jax
Here is a part of a message that came to CK mailbox and the article in question. I find it one of the nicest tokens of appreciation of who Keanu really is:
"Positive energy comes back in many forms
The River Journal is Tarrytown's (and surrounding river towns) longest running monthly local news publication. It is the go-to news paper for us when we want up-to-date, accurate neighborhood news. A moving, accurate article about Keanu and his film Henry's Crime leads the February publication. I'd like to share this with you. Many high profile folks in all industries pay big bucks to public relations firms to craft their public persona and generate hits and/or news worthy items. In contrast, Keanu and his entire crew and talent descended upon Tarrytown in January inspiring newspaper publisher Bob Bonvento to write this article. You can't make this stuff up. As the attached article says, 'priceless.' During what is normally a cold, dreary month, Keanu's production was indeed an uplifting experience for businesses and residents of Tarrytown. Positive energy comes back in many forms. Enjoy! Jackie Wolf-Enrione aka Big Bad Jax"

In Tarrytown, Feature Film Boosts Local Economy
Written by Robert Bonvento Friday, 19 February 2010
Ask any retail merchant or restaurant owner about January and, with few exceptions, they will bemoan the month from a financial gains standpoint.
The light of the Christmas holiday season, which may account for up to 30 percent of annual retail sales, is followed by the dark side of the moon in January. Add to this business fact of life our current economy that is at best sputtering along, and most retailers and restaurants simply look to February 14 and Saint Valentine to buoy their businesses.

[In Defense Of] Keanu Reeves
Posted on 16 January 2010 by Dan Mecca
For many, Keanu Reeves is the butt of the joke; the representation of Hollywood’s aimless leading man; the perfect example of lucky (“how did someone like Keanu Reeves get famous?”). And it’s hard to argue that Mr. Reeves does not deserve the ridicule, considering some of his more rudimentary turns.
There is a certain blankness to the man’s demeanor, a byproduct of the surfer dudes he played in the late 80s (the Bill and Ted films, Parenthood) /early 90s (Point Break) and the stoic heroes he took on in the mid-90s (Speed, Johnny Mneunomic, Chain Reaction).

6 ways to reinvent Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde: Keanu Reeves?
Hot off the film-festival hit Bronson, director Nicolas Winding Refn is entertaining a few Hollywood offers, including a remake of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde for Universal. Whether that becomes Refn's next film or not, he filled in a group of reporters on the direction of the remake when he gave an interview last Friday in Hollywood. Here's how he sees a new version of the classic Robert Louis Stevenson story.

Keanu Reeves, the Mane Attraction
Pippa star talks up his hair
Keanu Reeves has "hair-in-waiting." That's how he described his considerably longer (daresay, hunky) mane last night at a post-screening dinner for The Private Lives of Pippa Lee. He's currently spending time in Buffalo preparing for his next film, Henry's Crime, which he said bridges the romantic and bank-heist genres. The scruffy look, he said, is what happens when he's in between projects.

Keanu Reeves - An A-list slacker grows up
His next role sees him playing the toy-boy next door. But is Keanu Reeves really the guitar-strumming, eternal teenager of popular repute? Kaleem Aftab finds out
Friday, 3 July 2009
It's quite disconcerting meeting Keanu Reeves in the flesh. The 44-year-old looks at least a decade younger than his age, with his prominent cheekbones, flowing locks and smooth, other-worldly complexion. Deflecting questions with a mysterious gleam in his eye, there's something of the teenager about him.

The private lives of Keanu Reeves
by Kaleem Aftab
There is a popular misconception about Keanu Reeves. It’s a problem that nearly every actor struggles with at some time in their career and comes from an inability of audiences to separate the characters that actors play on screen from their real lives. The problem for Reeves is that he will forever be associated with the goofy Ted Logan from the teen-cult classic Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.
Overnight, people forgot that he’d cut his teeth on such eclectic fare as Tim Hunter’s murder drama River’s Edge (1986), Marisa Silver’s high-school drama Permanent Record (1988) and Stephen Frears’s magnificent Dangerous Liaisons (1988). Instead, all people wanted to do was shout “excellent” and “party on, dude” whenever the actor’s name was mentioned.

Grand Prix Pro/Celebrity Race: The Final Report

LONG BEACH - Even though women have fared well, and even won a handful of times at the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race at the Long Beach Grand Prix, many believed that Raven Symone wouldn't be a factor in the running of the 33rd annual event Saturday.

Celebrities get a feel for their cars and the track before upcoming Grand Prix competition
By Karen Robes Meeks
LONG BEACH - Will the winner of this year's Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race be the pro skater, the "Speed" star or the man with the word Bentley in his name?
If there was actual wagering, the smart money would be on Danny Way, said Las Vegas gaming expert Anthony Curtis, who for fun predicted that the pro skater who jumped the Great Wall of China would win the celebrity portion of the April 18 Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race against "Speed" star Keanu Reeves and "From G's to Gents" host Fonzworth Bentley.
Still, it didn't stop comedian Carlos Mencia from talking some trash.

An excellent lengthy article on the art of acting shortened for Keanu content. If you're interested in the subject, read it in full - it's worth it.
Why Keanu Reeves?
If the New York Times is correct is giving us the analogy that Tom Hanks is the new jimmy Stewart, I suggest that Keanu Reeves is the new Cary Grant.

Why do l love Keanu Reeves?
Keanu Reeves is not the best actor in the world. He doesn't top polls or get recognised by his peers; he's never been nominated for an Oscar, a Bafta or anything by a critics' circle or foreign festival jury. Unlike others who came through in the 1980s, such as Johnny Depp or John Cusack, he has yet to mature into a performer of real depth and has never once directed or produced.

'Earth' Director Has New View of Klaatu
by Tom Baker / Daily Yomiuri Staff Writer
"We are stunningly committed to the destruction of others and the destruction of ourselves," Scott Derrickson says of human nature. "And yet...[when] we approach true disaster, we recognize it and then have a stunning resiliency and a stunning ability to transform."
Derrickson is the director of The Day the Earth Stood Still, a movie in which a space alien named Klaatu (Keanu Reeves) coolly reveals that humanity is due to be exterminated for the greater good of the galaxy. It is a remake of a 1951 movie of the same title.

The Genius Of Keanu
by Helen O'Hara
The realisation that I was a Keanu Reeves apologist came upon me slowly. Through my teenage years it was perfectly acceptable to like him because, well, pretty! And then there was The Matrix, and everyone liked him, and there was no need for defence of this most elusive of A-listers at all. And while I would have defended him for the Matrix sequels, I and everyone else was too busy dealing with the disappointment to start pointing fingers at a mere star, when there was the whole damn film to condemn. So it probably wasn’t until Constantine that I realised that my high regard for him is controversial, and that – controversy be damned – I still think he’s massively underrated.
