When Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin—and an assortment of Hollywood’s most famous, coiffed, waxed and botoxed stars—ascend the stage of the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles on Sunday to present the 82nd Annual Academy Awards, many of the words you hear them speak will have been carefully crafted by a team of professional comedy writers...

Peter Sarsgaard introducing Carey Mulligan. Carey Mulligan and Zoe Saldana introducing best live action short. Chris Pine introducing “District 9,” Keanu Reeves introducing the clip from “The Hurt Locker.”

But introducing one of the Best Picture nominees is a very important role, especially when it's one of the frontrunners, even though he'll be just reading lines prepared by a writer.

Fingers crossed that Kathryn Bigelow wins for Best Director. There's a dust-up on the film right now,one of the dumb producers was caught sending e-mails to Academy votors, urging them to vote for the film. I hope this distraction doesn't diminish her chance to win. Now, Kathryn, cast Keanu in a great film. You love working with him. Find a screenplay that intrigues him, and then you can work together again.
